Psychotherapy, coaching & supervision
I consult with a range of clients, meeting personal and professional needs through short term coaching or more in depth psychotherapy.
Challenges commonly addressed include
stress, anxiety and depression
negative self beliefs, self-doubt and criticism
poor lifestyle choices and physical health
Resilience building is key to overcoming current and future life challenges. More importantly, it enhances confidence and performance in all key areas of life and is essential to develop proactively.
Mindfulness is another vital skill for psychological and physical health. It is the ability to be consciously aware of our thoughts and emotions and has been linked to an extensive range of health benefits.
Much of my work centres on laying a solid foundation of self awareness and emotional intelligence to address challenges efficiently and sustainably.
I additionally offer professional development of healthcare practitioners, including medical doctors, physiotherapists and biokineticists. This includes supervision and case management to enhance the therapeutic relationship between practitioners and their clients, thus improving treatment results.
Resilience in action:
Walking and running therapy
I have applied my love of running by developing a unique combination of mindfulness practice; talk therapy and physical activity. Clients start their therapeutic journey physically taking one step at a time, with the therapist by their side, in a scenically beautiful and engaging environment.
As with all psychotherapy, the content and pace of the session is directed by the client as they sit, walk or run and discuss what is on their mind and what they wish to accomplish.
The therapeutic benefits of natural spaces are well documented. There is also a growing body of evidence on how running or walking and talking facilitates and enhances therapeutic conversations:
- walking and running stimulate serotonin and endorphins and improve energy levels, optimism and facilitate problem solving skills
- walking side by side with a therapist often aids difficult discussions - by not having to make as much eye contact the conversations feel easier and less intimidating
- paying closer attention to our moving bodies develop better awareness of how we respond to stress and other negative triggers
Consulting, training & mentoring
Philippa employs Design Thinking to identify challenges experienced within organisations and their people, as well as areas of potential growth and productivity.
The process of information gathering and tailoring solutions draws heavily on Design Thinking. Exploring people's experiences requires empathy, optimism and intuition. These are the defining characteristics of Design Thinking, which emphasizes how people interact with services.
After an in-depth exploration of the design challenge, the consultant co-creates sustainable solutions with the users themselves, ensuring the services are genuinely useful to them.
Solutions are co-created with the client and include both responsive and proactive skills development through training workshops, group interventions or individual coaching.
Philippa consults with academic and professional researchers on resilience and other psychological factors, as well as the use of mixed methods and qualitative research in the health and social sciences, assisting in the preparation of studies as well as the data collection and analysis.
